Theatre Shoot
As a class, we were given the opportunity to do a theatre portrait shoot of the theatre university class here at northbrook. The Theatre workshop heavily involved portrait photography, specifically of the various characters and actors posing for us. This gave me the experience of taking portrait images in a situation where lighting was not a factor I could control and the subjects were in continuous motion, meaning I had to adapt quickly to the changing environment in order to get good images. Specifically this involved having camera on the highest shutter speed I could, in order to prevent image blur, without the pictures being too dark. I also had to change the white balance quickly for each situation in order to prevent any images being to strong in certain colour. The shoot consisted of 2 main parts, the "Zombie" shoot and the "Victorian" shoot, each involving relevant costumes, props and sets. |

Shoot Evaluation
I found this a unique and challenging experience, having to adapt to the rapidly changing conditions. However, I feel the shoot was very successful and I feel I have learnt a lot from the shoot, knowledge that will be useful in taking my portrait and self portrait images. Were I to have the chance to do this again, I feel I would now be more prepared for the rapid changes the shoot entails. I also would take more care with using flash, specifically the angles the flash uses, to prevent the persistent shadowing present in much of the zombie shoots images, which I feel gave the images a flat feeling, detracting from the power of the image.
