Fake Studio Shoot
Shoot Plan
For this shoot, my plan is to take many images using the same technique as my previous "fake studio" shoot, by placing contrasting coloured card behind the image subject and then editing it to change the background to black and giving the appearance of a studio. I also plan to take the images in the same manor as my previous macro shoot, with the micro-fauna "posing" for the camera in a portrait like fashion.
Equipment: Canon 80D, 18-55 lens, macro attachment, various coloured card, Photoshop. Tripod not used due to lack of time to set up in a macro scenario. Location: Various natural areas near my house that I have knowledge of in terms of micro-fauna. Health and Safety: Appropriate clothing/footwear. Ensure I am taking images on public land. |

Shoot Evaluation
I feel this shoot has produced a fair range of images but I do not believe it has produced professional enough work. Some of the images were successful, the caterpillar images especially. I feel the technique had worked well with them, creating a strong studio style image with thought out composition and lighting.
However, whilst the technique has worked to produce a studio style environment, a side effect among most of the shots (especially those with the fuzzy outlines like the bees) resulted in a thick grey outline. This caused a persistent colour difference in the majority of the edits, causing them to look poorly edited. I also feel I have not achieved the portrait style shots I have been aiming to get, so I need to pay much closer attention to image composition when shooting. Learning from this shoot, I will not use the "fake studio" technique on my macro shots and so will experiment/research further into producing a studio environment in post through other means and techniques. |
