Overall, the work produced from this project has been successful and very professional. The images I have produced have a studio appearance and have a portrait style appearance, much like that of Heather Angel and Tim Flachs' work.
Whilst I am pleased with the quality of my macro images, I feel the animal images have been of the higher quality, with them best fulfilling the brief of the studio style images I was aiming to achieve. I also feel the animal images best represented the portrait style "posing" I wanted to produce from this project. I have managed to successfully avoid the "holiday snap" appearance of the images, something I had an issue with on previous zoo/animal shoots.
However I feel the project also has improvements that could have been made. I feel having the opportunity to bring the animals into a studio and experiment with that style of photography could have yielded some useful experience and images. I also believe that taking the animal images with a darker background rather than trying to edit them to look dark, since the technique would sometimes result in a dark blurring around the edges of some of the animals in the images.
Overall, I believe this project has been a complete success, with the animal images especially coming out more professionally and of a higher quality than I believed I would be able to produce with the equipment at my disposal. With my zoom having a maximum of 300, I was not expecting to be able to get a close enough image and a large enough focus to get the images I have. However, by doing the previous test shoots at Sheffield park and the first Drusillas shoot, I was able to get enough experience to carefully plan the final shoot down to the necessary time of day and weather conditions for the optimum environment for the shoot. As a result, I feel the images I have produced are very professional and are a good response to the works of Heather Angel and Tim Flach that I was trying to produce.
