Street Shoot
Shoot Plan
For my street shoot, I plan to take old style sepia portrait images of people but in more modern clothing and environments. I will be taking candid style portraits, but with them looking at the camera, in the style of the images I have looked at in my research. I will take the pictures during sunny weather but ideally with some cloud, so the light is not too harsh and shadows aren't too strong. I will also try to get a range of ages of people, to give me a variety of images to work with. I will also try to get pictures of the street performers, something I feel is almost a trademark of Brighton seafront, as they have been present there for decades, centuries even. Equipment: Canon 80D, 18-55 lens, Tripod, Photoshop. Location: Brighton Seafront. Health and Safety: Appropriate clothing/footwear. Keep equipment away from the sea. Keep equipment hidden when not using it. |

Edits
To create these edits, I have used the sepia function on the hue and saturation tool. I also used the crystalise filter to add a small amount of grain to the images to produce a more aged feel. I have also edited the brightness/contrast to give them a slightly over exposed feel, common amongst the older sepia style images. |

Shoot Evaluation

I am pleased with the images I have taken in this shoot. They perfectly fit the concept of what I was trying to produce, old style images of modern people on Brighton seafront. I also believe the technique I used on Photoshop has worked very well, with the images look authentically old, with the same lighting conditions and picture quality.
However, I did have several issues during the shoot. The light was coming from the south and the direction I was mostly facing was south, meaning many of the pictures had to be taken against the sun, causing the faces to be underexposed while the backgrounds were overexposed. To fix this in future, I would take a reflector with me to lighten up the faces and as such be able to darken the overall image. Also were I to do this shoot again, I would like to experiment with using film to take these images, giving me an even more authentic appearance to the images.
