Studio Shoot
Shoot Plan
For my studio shoot, I plan to experiment with using wire lights to get an effect similar to the swirled hair in the picture the client originally presented (shown left). I also plan to experiment with using them on her hands whilst playing the keyboard too, giving a visual appearance to her musical "energy". Finally, I also want to get headshots (using what I learned from my research into headshots), waist shots and full body shots. I also want to use predominantly use bright colours (especially red) on black, fitting with the style of her punk rock/heavy metal target audience well.
Equipment: Canon 80D, 18-55 lens, tripod, coloured wire lights, flash gun, keyboard (as a prop), Photoshop. Location(s): Uni Black Studio Health and Safety: Ensure the tripod is not a trip hazard. Be mindful of the any lighting wires around the studio as possible trip hazards. Ensure wire lights are not a trip hazard. Ask clients permission before attaching wire lights or using flash gun on her. |

Final Edits/Evaluation
I believe the images I produce have come out extremely well, having good composition, lighting and focus. They also strongly follow the idea of light representing musical "energy" that I was aiming to represent. However, in future I would attempt to use a wider legged tripod or even a small crane style camera holder when doing this shoot, as a persistent difficulty I had was the wire lights becoming tangled around the tripod legs.
Also I have only edited the brightness/contrast and color balance for all of these images. |
I am also pleased with my waist, head and full body shots, with them having a professional appearance and well thought out lighting and composition. I believe the use of red lighting has worked well, bringing out the red in her hair, her red hair essentially being her "trademark", the reason I have employed the use of red light so heavily throughout the studio shoot. However, were I to do this shoot again, I would find a way to light up the red light in the hair without causing too much reddening to the face. Whilst the top left headshot blackens out most of the face, I decided to keep it as a final as I feel it could possibly serve well as a logo for the client. I also didn't want to convert any to black and white like the ones I researched as the red colour is a crucial element to my client, plus the black and white shots are generally for acting rather than musicians.

Album Cover Evaluation
Using the images taken during the studio and live lounge/rehearsal shoots, I have made a mock up of a CD case. I decided to use mostly the studio images as I felt they represented my clients style of music best. I believe the CD cover has come out very well, especially considering the fact I am a novice when it comes to InDesign. However I do feel some of the images could do with a reshoot, with the composition of them not quite suiting well for a CD cover, so I would experiment with a variety of angle were I to reshoot. |
