Final Idea Concept
For my project, I want to further develop the work and ideas produced during the Nik Thakkar client project. Specifically, I want to develop the planet images produced during the project. I want to use the planet/paint/UV/water technique I had developed but further vary the use of planets to produce different textures/scenes. Having researched into the photography work of Adam Makarenko and drawing inspiration from it, I also plan to incorporate planetary surface views into the project, producing some miniature landscapes to create sci-fi style planetary surfaces. I plan to use a variety of materials and experiment with creating the planet surfaces, with different textures and colours being used as well as the possible use of small models and items to create a larger feel of scale in the images (for example, a small spaceman model). I will further experiment with the use of different paints and materials in the water tank to create a more authentic space feel in the images (e.g. I may try to use a cd to replicate a planets rings). Finally, I plan to experiment with using film, both colour and black & white, to get a more historical feel a la older images from space probes/moon landing etc. I want to give the film images the feel of actual scientific images from a newly discovered planet. The main aim from this project is to produce these images using as much physical effects (e.g. smoke machine, inks, etc) instead of effects produced in post. I plan to produce a series of images from this project, a minimum of 6 final images with a high enough quality to be printed at least A2.

Test Shoot
As a starting off point for this project, I have produced some experiments using a paving slab as a planets surface to see how the effect looked when produced. As simple starting experiments I have found these to aptly represent the idea I intend to convey with this project. However, I had to produce a gradient effect in post rather than in person, something I want to produce physically in future rather than in post. |
