Macro Shoot
Shoot Plan
For this shoot, my plan is to take macro pictures of insects and other macro creatures in the style of Flach. Whilst I do not have the equipment to get images as close to the subjects as Flach, I will still look to take similar images in the context of composition, lighting and colouring.
My plan is to go out on several wanders, on days with adequate natural lighting, to take macro images of micro-fauna. I plan to take images in a portrait scenario, with the image subject face on or "posing" for the image. I will take the areas around my home, an area I know to have significant micro-fauna. I plan to take my camera (80D), 18-55 lens and macro attachment, however I will not take my tripod due to having a limited time to take the images ergo not having the necessary time to set up a tripod for said shot. For health and safety, I will need to take necessary clothing and footwear. I will also need to make sure I am taking the images all on public land. |

Shoot Evaluation
This shoot has been fairly successful. I have produced a large range of shots with varying backgrounds and colourings. I have also managed to get a good mixture of image subjects, all together giving a substantial variety of shots.
However, a persistent problem I with this shoot has been getting a necessary depth of field on the subjects., with many of the images having focus on the face/eyes of the insects with the bodies completely blurred out, losing a large amount of detail on the image subject. To fix this issue future shoots, I plan to not zoom too far onto the image subject, producing an image with a smaller image subject but much more detail.
I also feel many of the images do not have the portrait style composition I was hoping to achieve with this shoot, with many of the shots being side on or from above, something I will need to correct in future shoots by paying due attention to the composition of the shot when shooting.
